A thread below got me thinking (I`m being careful).

Is "Box Of Rain" 73-02-24 -

http://www.archive.org/details/gd73-02-24.pset1-sbd.sly.16051.sbeok.shnf

- the worst vocal performance by The Dead? Donna starts ok but Phil is totally out from the start. And when Donna loses it (on about her third line) it`s excruciating. They`re both off key but in a different way. Ahhggh!

Btw the "Playin`" afterwards is awesome. Phil goes off on one. My favourite Bass player - close to the bottom of my list of vocalists though.

While this is a great show and you all might want to check this link out, Donna does something completely unholy at the end of this short Scarlet Begonias. Instead of the annoying moaning, she starts screaming. This is not just caterwauling like in PITB, this is something Jamie Lee Curtis would have done in a horror movie.

I actually listen to it when I need a laugh.

Here's the worse show I attended. A bit of an 'off' night...

Road-tripped from Seattle, too.

I've never heard a live version of Attics that I could stand! :O

..."Why Don't We Do It in the Road" from Merriweather '84 was a bit rough, but in a fun, garage-band way.

ouch i agree. Dylan on that D&D tour was AWFUL.

i will never forget when they played Mister Tambourine Man and it was so bad that i couldn't figure out what song it was until half way through.

I would say the Hey Jude on 2-11-69 is among the top 10 worst performaces without Donna. When the end of that song hits the entire band is off key with each other.

lol Very true. She was apparently the hardest partier in the dead for a while. In McNally's book he talks about Donna beatin up Keith and destroying hotel rooms.

I picture her smackin' him around in a drunkin' stupor while letting out one of those horrible Playing in the band screams.
